August newsletter

The management committee met last week and here is a brief round-up of what has been happening

If you have anything you would like included in the newsletter just email glenitigolf@xtra.co.nz

Thanks

Thanks are always due for all our members – from the Monday volunteer gang to everyone who gives their time to help in so many ways. However this month we have extra special thanks to:

  • New member Steve McCoy whose company Rockbridge Management is our new hole in one sponsor. Check out their website https://www.rockbridgemanagement.co for business planning, governance, coaching, process improvement and marketing advice
  • Mike Bassingthwaite and Fulton Hogan for the donated shingle for the carpark
  • Blue Cook for not only arranging a great deal for us with Alpine Energy for moving the power lines, but also donating his time and expertise with electrical issues to minimise costs to the club
  • Jenny Austin for administering the payroll which is another huge saving for us
  • Grant Wilkins for the special deal on the log splitter

Pitch marks

Just a reminder from Todd to PLEASE repair your pitch marks. It has been very bad lately on the bottom half of #1 green and also on #15. If you see a pitch mark someone else has left please fix it

“It takes a player only five seconds to repair a fresh pitch mark on the green and it will heal within 24 hours. A fresh pitch mark left unrepaired for only one hour will take 15 days to fully heal the ugly scar”

Machinery

Look out for the new greens mower which should be arriving in September as Bob managed to secure a great deal. And our new log splitter mentioned above will keep the firewood money rolling in...

Trees

...Leading on from that there have been some negative comments about some trees that have been marked for removal. The planting proposal board is in the clubhouse and we are looking for more people to help on the tree sub-committee so please put your hand up and help out

Road
A quick reminder to be very careful exiting the car park as there has been a lot of extra traffic on Oakwood Road with all the workmen over the road. Also take care exiting Oakwood Road onto Pages Road as vehicles travel very fast along there and we don’t want any accidents

Congratulations

Two of our members have celebrated birthdays recently and both of them had amazing rounds on the day - Joan Inglis with 48 stabs and Elisabeth Thorp with a nett 67 – well done ladies

Clubhouse
There was discussion earlier in the year about maintenance inside the clubhouse including painting. It was agreed that depending on our spending for repairs and maintenance throughout the year we should be able to look at this at the end of the year if we have funds available

Tournament
And finally a reminder about our 2 day tournament October 2 and 3 - get your entries in now
