AGM

As you will have seen from the clubhouse notices and the Courier, this will be held on Monday, December 7 at 7pm. We are just waiting for financial report to come back from auditors and then the annual report will be emailed out to all members. There will be a limited number of copies available on the night so please read beforehand and maybe just bring along the agenda and any pages that you want to refer to.

If any members have items for the agenda please let me know as soon as possible

Bar

After many years of service Maurie is not standing for convenor this year so we are desperately looking for someone to step into his shoes. We need to explain that although Maurie has really fulfilled three roles for us we are hoping to spread the load in future so we need lots of helpers. To explain in a bit more detail:

Convenor – the person in charge of stock and ordering and arranging the bar rosters and overseeing the operation – Maurie is going to train you up so don’t panic

Licence holder – currently we have Maurie and RP – we have other people willing to step up to this but they need recent experience behind the bar so we have some time to get someone else up to speed – if we could have a few licence holders we could rotate duties

Bar staff – people who are willing to work behind the bar. No licence is needed but it is preferable to do a free online Servewise course which takes approx an hour. If we can get enough people we can have a roster

Please consider stepping up for one of these positions. We need your help or we may face closing the bar

NZ Golf / Par NZ Foursomes

Just a reminder that this is on from Tues to Thurs this coming week with morning and afternoon rounds so the course won’t be available for normal golf on those days. Reminder that we have reciprocal rights at Pleasant Point and Peter is conferring with them for times. Thanks to Carole and her committee and also all the other people who have helped out with cleaning painting and general tidying to make this successful

Trees

Our greens and tree committees recently did some inspections of some significant trees on the course which have issues. They are very mindful that people can be sensitive when it comes to trees and want to reassure members that they are not just going round ripping out trees but if there is either a H&S issue or damage to course they may have no alternative. They also wish to extend the invitation to anyone to join the tree committee so they may have more understanding

#14 green tree

Although this tree is very picturesque and is a feature of the hole, at coring this year it was discovered how much damage the roots are doing to the green. Bob Mortimer has some photos of this which will be on show in the clubhouse. If there is a protest about the removal of this tree we will have to find a way to relocate the green

Willow by #4 tee and pond

This willow is completely rotten and has to be removed asap before there is an accident

Tree by #18 green

This is an item for discussion. It is impossible to grow grass around the area of this tree which leaves a large brown dry patch which is unsightly both from the course and from the clubhouse. There is a possibility that we may be able to dig out around the tree and replace the soil but this could be quite costly. Please consider this issue and send comments via glenitgolf@xtra.co.nz

H&S

At our annual review we have looked at this system and have decided that it would be far better if we could spread the workload a bit more instead of it all being down to a couple of people. No experience is required as full training will be given but if you could spare a couple of hours a month to complete some checklists or do some data entry work we would love to hear from you. This is an essential part of the running of the club now that we are employers as the whole club and clubhouse is deemed to be a workplace

Closing Day

Reminder – it is tomorrow with MJ Holden Husband & Wife trophy up for grabs. If anyone is looking for a partner contact Peter Bryce or Kath Galwey

QR codes
These have now been reprinted and are available around the clubhouse. You can either scan these in with your NZ Covid app or you can use the DotGolf app which has the option to “check in”. If you have any queries about this you can ring or email me
